Advice for Repairing Hex Head Bolts

I have always been someone who is interested in manufacturing, but a few years ago I started working harder on learning about the industry. I started visiting as many factories as I could, and before I knew it, I realized that there were a lot of things that I didn't know how to do yet. I started going to workshops and talking with real industry professionals, and it was really eye opening. This blog is all about learning about the people and processes that make all of our greatest inventions, and what you can do to create a better life for yourself.

If you consistently use hex head bolts in projects, some of them may get damaged. Instead of throwing them out completely, repairs may be a possibility. You just need to execute these measures for a meaningful repair process. To learn more about repairing hex head bolts, read on.

1. Rely on a Vice

When trying to repair any part of a hex head bolt, you want there to be very little movement. Not only will that help you adjust the bolt with a lot more precision, but it will also prevent you from damaging the bolt further with the repair tool that you're working with.

Vices are very helpful when it comes to keeping hex head bolts or any other bolt secure for repair. They make them in different sizes and with different strengths. A standard vice should be all that's needed to keep your hex head bolts in place while you work on them diligently.

2. Purchase Restoration Kits

There are particular tools you'll need to complete different repairs on hex head bolts. If you don't think you have them in your tool collection, then what you can do is go out and buy repair kits. They should include most of the tools you'll need for fixing hex head bolts.

You might find things like lubricants, cutting instruments, and heating systems if you need to manipulate the shape of a durable hex head bolt. You just need to verify you go with a repair kit that's compatible with the problems you're trying to fix with these bolts.

3. Don't Forget to Clean

When hex head bolts become difficult to work with, sometimes it's just the fact that they're too dirty. Things may have collected in the threads and that could be the reason why you're experiencing issues with them. In that case, you'll just need to clean the threads on the bolt thoroughly. You can use a rag and some cleaning solutions. Or if you want to really perform a thorough cleaning job, you can use a portable air compressor on the grooves to spray out things that have collected. Basic cleaning steps will do a lot of good as far as restoring older hex head bolts.

If there are problems with some of the hex head bolts in your collection, you should try everything you can to repair them before finding replacements. You may just need to invest in some special tools or spend time working on certain sections.
